mentor vs coach

This post was in response to a statement made by a classmate. I attempted to address one difference between a mentor and a coach.

I didn't intend to imply that 'no' goals are needed. What I should have said was that mentoring opportunities in some situations aren't always strategically defined. The role of a coach is usually more strategic in comparison to the role of a mentor. Occasionally, mentors may have an agenda that lacks specifics but maintains a purpose (Etta, 2005).
