Obama’s town house meeting on Facebook


On April 20 at 4:45 pm (EST) President Obama appeared on the social networking site Facebook for his first online town house meeting. President Obama is flying to Facebook headquarters at Paolo Alto, California, to answer questions from the public through living streaming. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO will be hosting the President.
Continuing the theme of President Obama’s State of the Union address, questions answered will mainly revolve around innovating the economy and the budget. Post a question of your own on the event wall on Facebook and join in to watch President Obama discuss imperative questions either on Facebook or on the White House website. Facebook will screen the questions posted and present the ones most pertinent to today’s society.
With this live Facebook town hall meeting, President Obama is stepping up to meet the call of today’s technology. Millions of people from all walks of life in the United States have Facebook accounts, making it an effective and easy means to reach American citizens. 
Currently, President Obama has over nineteen million likes on Facebook. With the 2012 election coming up, President Obama is using Facebook to conveniently reach millions of people across the United States. With his re-election campaign announced on You Tube, he follows up with his town house meeting on Facebook as an effort to get a further technological heads up on his re-election run. By addressing questions which are key to his platform and significant in his advancement of the American economy, he can give his knowledge to our society through the Facebook platform.
President Obama has an “Are You In” app to like on Facebook, as part of his campaign. Facebook has joined in by providing those who are part of “Are You  In” with a banner of what friends of yours have not liked “Are You In.” This way President Obama supporters on Facebook can promote their candidate.
With Facebook becoming an important tool of Obama’s White House, this popular social medium could change politics in the future. President Obama’s started this movement April 20/2011.
