HPT practitioners



The workers on the assembly line at the WizzyWats factory weren't identifying defective components correctly. This led to an increase in defective products, a loss of production, and a frustrated management team.

Human Performance Improvement, Second Edition: Building Practitioner Competence (Improving Human Performance)The company hired a consultant to monitor the workflow, but the consultant was unable to locate any problems with the machines or the speed of the line. Therefore, the only conclusion was that alertness and fatigue were to blame. Based on this conclusion, the consultant made two recommendations:

1. Comfortable chairs were added to the assembly line.
2. Timely breaks were scheduled for the workers.

Over a period of time, these interventions did not produce any significant change in production. Workers still failed to identify defective components properly.
Answer the following questions:

1. What factors could be included in this study that were overlooked by the consultant?
2. Select a solution and decide which level of intervention seems most appropriate for implementing your solution.
3. State the reasons for your selection and describe what that intervention might look like.
4. How would you evaluate your intervention to know that you were successful?

Find a model that for testing employees that's not disruptive to the normal work day. Find a way to test several models.  Gather data from previous training initiatives. It is important to understand that training may not be the solution. The solution might be rearranging the workflow or adjusting break times. Identifying the different categories that must be addresses in order to make an accurate deduction is too.  



There are a number of different types of skills:
  • Cognitive - or intellectual skills that require thought processes
  • Perceptual - interpretation of presented information
  • Motor - movement and muscle control
  • Perceptual motor - involve the thought, interpretation and movement skills

formative assessments

How important are formative assessments? We are revisiting this discussion in class this week. I think it is important to monitor a student's growth process during the entire learning process. The information that is captured from these assessments can help the teacher/ facilitator make the needed adjust to the content being delivered. Assessing how well a student is absorbing important content can be productive if implemented in a non formal fashion. Formal grading shouldn't be a tool for assessing how well a student comprehends to body of knowledge. Formative assessments were help when I assisted my 4th grader with his online schooling. Before he could move on to follow up learning section, I used a formative assessment to measure the depth of his understanding. The same tool can be used in a business environment for assessing the level of employee comprehension, during the implementation of a new training module or platform.

There are many different evaluation types and assessments available for instructional designers. Formative assessment can be used to assist students in online courses to take ownership and remain motivated during their learning experience.
